Visit Caerphilly Centre
Today the modern Visit Caerphilly building is a welcome stop for a coffee or light lunch

Before the redevelopment of this are there were houses on this site. The largest house with the attic windows was known as Ty Meddyg, Doctor's House and was where Evan Edwards lived in the early 19th century
The Twyn

The view from what is now the Tommy Cooper statue in the 19th century. The man walking up the hill was a well known local called Pegleg Fullalove

The square today is a community space with a community centre and the local library.

The Courthouse
One of the oldest buildings in Caerphilly The Courthouse is currently a pub and restaurant

Over the many years of its history this lovely building has been many things and during the 1940's it was the local doctors house.
Original post office
Currently the Santander Bank occupy this building but it was originally the first post office in Caerphilly

David Williams Monument
This monument is in memory of David Williams, born in Caerphilly in 1738, died in London in 1816.

Gorsedd Stones
This circle of standing stones was used during the 1950 National Eisteddfod as the centre for the druidic ceremonies
Ysgol y Castell
Ysgol y Castell primary school is one of two Welsh language primary schools in Caerphilly town.
Caerphilly Girls Grammar School
Built in the 1920s the school was originally the grammar school for local girls.
Lych Gate
This lych gate was originally the entrance to the eisteddfod field
The National Eisteddfod
The National Eisteddfod is an annual celebration of Welsh culture and art which visited Caerphilly in 1950
The Hornworks
This artificial island was created to protect the western approach to the castle. The foundation wall can still be seen below the grassy mound.
Caerphilly Castle
The biggest castle in Wales and the second biggest in Britian. Caerphilly is a masterpiece of medieval engineering

The castle was largely restored by the 3rd and 4th Marquis of Bute in the late 19th and early 20th century

The castle has also been used in many film and tv productions appearing as anything from 17th century London to a futuristic prison
